State Boxing Championship Held with Enthusiasm at MIT ADT University, Pune
Loni-Kalbhor (Pune): A state-level invitational boxing championship was held with great enthusiasm at MIT Art, Design and Technology (ADT) University on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Executive President and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad.
The competition featured both men’s and women’s categories across multiple weight divisions including welterweight, bantamweight, lightweight, light middleweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight. The event was inaugurated by Arjuna Award-winning boxer Captain Gopal Devang and Olympian and Arjuna Awardee boxer Manoj Pingale.
Dignitaries present on the occasion included Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajesh S., Provost Dr. Sayali Ganakar, Director of Sports Prof. Padmakar Phad, Dr. Atul Patil and others.
At the conclusion of the event, winners across all weight categories were awarded gold medals, while runners-up received silver medals along with total prize money exceeding ₹2 lakh.
Boxers from several reputed academies across the state participated, including Yuva Vikas Manch, Manoj Pingale Sports Academy, Knockout Boxing Academy, Mumbai Boxing Academy, Star Boxing Academy, Kondhwa Boxing Academy, Kharalwadi Boxing Academy, K.D. Boxing Academy, BMSA Academy, BVGP Boxing Academy and Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT Sports Academy, showcasing highly competitive bouts.
In the middleweight category (70–75 kg), Mithesh Rathod from K.D. Boxing Academy was adjudged the “Best Boxer”, while Arya Auti from MIT ADT University won the “Best Challenger” award in the heavyweight category (85–90 kg).
